Copy pasted from AI coz I am in a bad mood.
I lost $500
Need some outside perspective because I’m not sure if I’m letting a financial loss cloud my judgment.
I met a woman online and we had been talking for a while. We planned to meet in Erie, PA for the first time. I live in Toronto and she lives near Pittsburgh (Wilkinsburg area).
Because it was a long-distance first meeting, I booked a hotel for the weekend.
Unfortunately, the cancellation deadline has passed and I will lose about $500.
Today, that’s 2 days before the trip, she sent me this:
“Good morning. I cannot meet you this weekend. My car is not good right now, I hit a deer yesterday. I’m feeling very stressed about the car and am not in a good mental space. That’s one reason why I was up late, I am trying to figure out what to do about my car. Also I wanted to talk to you and let you know I have to cancel plans for Saturday. I am sorry.”
I replied:
“Good luck!”
A few hours later she replied:
“Thank you!”
That’s the entire conversation.
A few things that bother me:
The accident allegedly happened on Wednesday (yesterday) and the date was on Saturday.
The message felt more like a notification than an apology.
She didn’t acknowledge that I had already booked a hotel.
She didn’t suggest another date.
Her only follow-up after my reply was “Thank you!”
I’m upset about losing $500.
A few red flags I noticed. We matched on Facebook Dating. She deleted the conversation as soon as we exchanged numbers. And then said she’s off the app.
She also tried to flatter me a little saying “I felt a little different about you”.
I trusted this because on 2 occasions before, I successfully met 2 dates from NY and PA who drove to a midpoint location.
Looking for objective opinions.
